Understanding the SMM2H Application Fees
The Sarawak Malaysia My Second Home (SMM2H) program allows eligible foreigners to live in Sarawak on a long-term basis. Life here is generally quieter and more affordable than in major regional cities, with easy access to nature and cultural diversity with a mix of Malay, Chinese, Iban, Bidayuh and other communities.
Beyond its cultural diversity and natural environment, Sarawak offers a lower cost of living, stable infrastructure, and a slower, more manageable pace of daily life compared to major metropolitan hubs in Southeast Asia.
Relocating to a new country is a significant decision, and knowing exactly what you will pay, and when, makes the process far smoother. The SMM2H application fees can generally be divided into agent fees, Government processing fee, security bond and additional costs.
1. Agent Fees
Agent fees cover support throughout your SMM2H application. They are paid in two stages, so you do not need to pay everything at once.
Main Applicant
Total fee: RM12,960 (including 8% SST)
Upfront payment (20%): RM2,592
Balance: RM10,368, payable only after you receive conditional approval
Each Dependent (spouse, children, or main applicant's parents)
Total fee: RM2,160 (including 8% SST)
Upfront payment: RM432
Balance: RM1,728, payable only after you receive conditional approval
2. Government Processing Fee
The Sarawak Government charges a one time processing fee of RM5,000. It is payable to the Sarawak Government when you submit your application and is non-refundable.
3. Security Bond
The security bond depends on the main applicant's country of origin:

The security bond is applicable only to the main applicant. Dependents are only required to pay a stamp duty of RM10 per person. The security deposit is refundable upon termination of the SMM2H visa; however, the refund process typically takes a few months to complete by Sarawak Immigration Department.
4. SMM2H Application Additional fees
In addition to the fees above, applicants should also budget for the following additional costs:
Document certification and translation
Medical examination and endorsement in Sarawak
Annual medical insurance
Annual visa fees and entry visa fees
These costs are generally moderate. The exact amount depends on the number of dependents, documents, ages, and nationalities.
Understanding the SMM2H application fees involved early on allows for better financial planning and provides greater peace of mind throughout the journey toward building a new life in Sarawak.
