Discover the Newly Opened Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX)
Sarawak has welcomed an exciting new attraction that is the perfect destination for anyone who loves to ask "how" and "why". Officially opened on 29 July 2026, the Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX) is Sarawak’s very first large-scale interactive science centre.
Located at Jalan Stadium, Petra Jaya, Kuching, this modern architectural facility is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage visitors of all ages to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Operating under the theme "Igniting Curiosity," SSCiEX supports Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) by driving STEM literacy and inspiring the state's next generation of scientists.
With more than 400 interactive exhibits across multiple themed galleries, SSCiEX is already shaping up to be one of Kuching's must-visit educational destinations. Unlike traditional museums where visitors simply observe exhibits from afar, this centre encourages everyone to touch, experiment, and discover.
If you are planning your visit, here is a complete guide to what you can explore inside.
Ground Floor: Discover Our Planet
Your journey begins on the Ground Floor, where six engaging galleries introduce visitors to the natural wonders and systems of Earth:
Wonder of Science: An exciting introduction to scientific thinking through visual demonstrations and highly interactive displays.
Sarawak Delta Geopark: Learn about Sarawak’s unique geological heritage, rock formations, and natural landscapes.
Water Play: A fun, tactile zone where younger visitors can experiment with fluid dynamics, water pressure, and flow mechanics.
Chemistry: Discover colorful chemical reactions and the fundamental building blocks of matter.
Earth and Geology: Understand the dynamic forces that shape our planet, including volcanoes, earthquakes, and minerals.
Dinosaurs: Travel back millions of years to explore to explore prehistoric life, fossil history, and the evolution of prehistoric species.
First Floor: Experience the Science Around Us
Upstairs on the First Floor, the galleries shift focus to the physical sciences we encounter in our everyday lives:
Forces and Mechanics: Get hands-on with levers, pulleys, and motion to make scientific principles click instantly.
Electricity and Magnetism: Demystify invisible forces by building simple circuits and experimenting with magnets.
Light and Sound: Experience optical illusions, wave behavior, acoustic phenomena, and the physics of perception.
Energy and Heat: Discover how energy moves, transforms, and powers our daily routines.
Communications: Discover how human communication evolved—from early signals to satellite technology and digital data networks.
These hands-on activities are highly effective at making complex scientific theories easy to understand for both children and adults alike.
Outdoor Science Gallery: Science in the Open Air
The learning continues outdoors where natural forces are demonstrated in creative, open-air spaces. Don't miss these impressive installations:
Analemmatic & Azimuthal Sundials: See how humans have tracked time using nothing but the position of the sun for centuries.
Kinetic Wind Sculpture: Experience how moving air currents are turned into beautiful, mesmerizing motion.
Fire Tornado: A dramatic and visually stunning demonstration showing how fire and rotating air combine to create a swirling vortex—a guaranteed highlight for photos.

What Will You Learn at Sarawak Science Centre?
Visiting the Sarawak Science Centre is far more than reading display boards—it is an immersive, multi-sensory learning environment. Visitors will walk away with:
