Living in Sarawak under the SMM2H program offers a unique opportunity to enjoy fresh, tropical fruits year-round.


This post highlights five common local fruits you shouldn't miss.—each enriched with flavor, nutrients, and affordability.


It's a great idea to shop at the local wet market- bring your own reusable bag and help reduce plastic waste.


Sarawak fruits — mangosteen, lime, tomato, rambutan, and mango — with tropical leaves and floral accents.

  1. Manggis (Mangosteen)


A deep purple rind and juicy white segments inside. Its flavor is a perfect mix of sweetness and tanginess. Known as the Queen of Fruits.


Health Benefit: Highly nutritious with powerful antioxidants called Xanthones and vitamin C. It is also a good source of fiber, copper, and vitamin B. Promote glowing skin, anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting.


Price: Around RM12 per kg



  1. Limau Kasturi (Calamansi)


A small greenish-yellow citrus fruit, sour and fragrant, widely used in Sarawak’s local dishes and drinks. Its tangy aroma adds freshness to noodles, seafood, and iced drinks.


Health Benefit: Rich in Vitamin C. Boost immune system, aids digestion, and helps detoxify body naturally.


Price: Around RM3 per kg


  1. Tomato


Sarawak’s locally grown tomatoes are bright red and slightly oval-shaped. Perfect for salads and cooking as it's juicy and flavorful.


Health Benefit: Rich in lycopene and Vitamin A. Protect your skin, support heart heath, and eyesight. Low in calories, suitable for snacking.

4. Rambutan - From Malay word rambut (hair)


A soft, hair-like skin Sarawak local fruit. Inside is juicy, white flesh, sweet and refreshing taste, similar to lychee, often described as a mix between a lychee and a grape.


Health Benefit: A good source of iron and Vitamin C. Boost energy, immune system and collagen production. Contains soluble and insoluble fiber, promote healthy digestion, great for weight management.


Price: Around RM8 per kg


5. Mango


A golden-yellow, naturally sweet, and bursting with tropical aroma, widely used in Sarawak’s local desserts. Incredibly sweet and creamy to slightly more tart.


Health Benefit: High in Vitamin A and beta-carotene, great for skin and eye health. They also contain enzymes that aid digestion.


Price: Around RM 5- 12 ( Depends on variety)
